Going On Vacation? Pamper Your Pussy At A Cat Resort Of His Own

Most cats get lonely when their owners go off on vacation. You can ask friends or family members to look in on your cat while you’re gone, but the visits to top off the water and food bowls and exercise the pooper-scooper aren’t the same as having someone at home most of the time. Why not give your cat his own vacation at a cat resort?

What Your Cat Can Expect

Just like people hotels, cat resorts have a list of amenities your cat can enjoy. Depending on the cat resort, these amenities could be included in the rate or be charged an additional fee. Either way, the extras are usually prebooked by the owners.

Comfortable Mini-Rooms

The best cat resorts have private “kitty rooms” complete with carpeted beds, litter boxes and toys. Family suites are available for two or more cats so you don’t have to separate your cats. Some deluxe resort rooms even have windows, fully secured of course. If the resort also caters to dogs, the two species are kept separated, often with a sound-proof barrier between them.

Play Area

A larger play area with scratch posts, cat trees and other toys is available, perfect for the cat who likes to socialise. Fully secured outside play areas are available at some resorts. If your cat wants to just be a couch-pussy, that’s fine. Some breeds, like Persians, are like that.

The Food

Cat resorts are set up to deal with any type of diet. If you let them know about your pet’s preferences, or if they are on a special diet because of health reasons, the resort will make sure your pet gets the proper food. If the diet is unusual, some pet resorts may ask you to provide the food, but this is rare.

The Treats

Some resorts step things up a notch by creating special feline treats, like fish-flavoured ice cream or fresh fish or prawns. If your cat’s diet allows such indulgences, they are something you might consider.

The Cuddles

The food is important, but so are the cuddles. Even the most aloof pussycat likes to know that someone is around, even if all they want is the occasional scratch on the chin. Cat resorts have assigned attendants that watch over the animals, making sure they get lots of scratches and cuddles. If your cat is the anti-social type, the cuddling and attention is one-on-one. Cats that like lots of company are often taken to the play area so they get some personal attention and exercise at the same time.

Health Services

Cat resorts either have a veterinarian in-house or connections with clinics that are nearby. They will require that your pet be up to date with its vaccinations and that you provide a health certificate. Most also request your pet’s health records. All of this is needed to keep your pet and the other residents safe. This is also useful information for the staff and veterinarian in case an issue should arise.

Grooming services are also available. While some cats like Persians and Himalayans need daily brushing, even short-haired cats benefit from regular grooming.
